Music connects the World: Music knows no boundries or barriers.
With pride the Philharmonie Zuidnederland is participating in a very special project: Musical Postcards, together with Sint Maartenscollege Maastricht and the Maastricht Academy of Music. Philharmonie Zuidnederland will be the first orchestra in the Netherlands to be presenting a Musical Postcard in the concerthall.
Concert performance on Friday 9th of December
On the ninth of December the Province of Limburg celebrates the European treaty of Maastricht during a concert of the Philharmonie Zuidnederland, in which the unity between European contries will be celebrated. It’s beautiful that music can be a cornerstone in these celebrations: the concert will open with the premiere of Fleeing for dreams, a performance of a musical postcard made by students of Sint Maartenscollege, together with students of Maastricht Academy of Music for Ghiyath. The recording of this musical postcard will be sent to Ghiyath.
Check the Ghiyath’s musical postcard, which started it all down below... as well as a little taste of what to expect during the concert on the 9th of December.

The children of the future can do all those things which I miss the most whilst working in this dark factory…
The sacrifice of love is limitless. To survive, parents send their children to work and these children in turn take on the responsibility to help support the family. Once; here in the Netherlands. And nowadays; elsewhere.
In an atmospheric soundpiece by composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven you will be taken on a journey through the industrial past of this city. In many cases the concrete is still there, but what happened on the inside has long since gone. Bâtiment Passager is an ode to Chapelain Wijnen and the 11 year old Hoessein. Wijnen took a stance against child labour during the second half of the 19th century in Maastricht and Syrian refugee Hoessein currently works in a factory in Turkey every day.

Workshop: Build Your Own Instrument
07/10/2015 Intro, Maastricht
Led by inspiring sound artist Lucas Kramer the students learned how to build their own musical instruments using the materials made available to them
With a pile of disassembled musical instruments, piles of screws, nails and all sorts of other building materials, Lucas showed the students how you only need basic means to build a very cool instrument yourself. After a hesitant start the students managed to show off a whole range of wacky new instruments at the end of the day.
The instruments were later used in the performance of "Musical Postcards" in the former Nato Bunker in Maastricht (see event above)
Attractive performance in former NATO-bunker in Maastricht
Conservatorium Maastricht, Bonnenfantencollege Maastricht, United World College Maastricht, Stichting Limburgs Landschap, Intro and composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven collaborated to realise "Musical Postcards" around the theme "Child Labour".
During two performances the students reflected in creative, mesmorizing , moving and musical fashion on the given theme. Also "Musical Postcards" from different parts of the world were shown...
